CARLOS ALPERIN - Personal Profile
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Carlos was educated in his homeland, as well as in Israel before moving to Australia in 1988. A passion in arts and filmmaking saw Carlos attaining in 1977 a BA degree in Fine Arts from Betzalel School (Jerusalem) and in 1979 a Diploma in Film and TV from Beit Tzvi (Tel Aviv, Israel).

Carlos traveled and worked widely in Asia and the Americas. In 1988 he settled in Australia with his wife and daughter and since then he has been living in Brisbane, Queensland, where he studied for a MA in Film and TV at Griffith University.

In 2002 Carlos created Galloping Films as a boutique film and TV distribution and production company.

Distribution
Galloping Films is an international distributor and sales agent of documentary films, TV drama and feature films and it represents independent producers and TV broadcasters from all continents. Galloping Films skillfully plans the marketing strategies to launch a successful film or TV program by closely monitoring industry trends so we can maximize the exposure and the licensing of our clients films and TV programs.

Carlos has participated at 21 international film and TV markets and conferences including MIP-Asia (HK), MIP-TV, MIPCOM, Cannes Market (France), LA Screenings (USA), Asia TV Forum (Singapore), Pussan Film Market (Korea), Tokyo Film Market (Japan), SPAA and AIDC (Australia).

Galloping Films licensed 40 TV series totaling 1,092 episodes of variety, sitcom and drama, and 75 feature films and documentaries from Australia, United States, France, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, China and Hong Kong.

Production
Carlos has strong ties with all the major Australian film funding bodies. He created and produced episodes and trailers of animated series such as COSMO KIDS, Winner of the Monte Miller Award by the Australian Writer’s Guild and THE PUP PUPS, developed with Scottish TV.

In 2005-06 Carlos wrote and produced the 52’ documentary RAUL THE TERRIBLE, an intimate and often dangerously up-close portrait of Raul Castells, a man driven to change the world and a frightening insight into the politics of poverty in 21st century Argentina. Directed by twice Academy Award nominee David Bradbury, the film was awarded a Special Mention at FIPA in Biarritz (France), was nominated for Best Documentary, won Best Director and Best Editor at the 2006 AFI awards, and won Best Director by Australian Directors Guild. The film was screened on SBS Australia in 2007.

Galloping Films is currently in the last stages of raising finance for the production of very compelling documentary series and feature films:

  • EATING WITH THE ANCESTORS, a 6x60’ documentary series exploring the exciting historical, anthropological and culinary perspective of international food.
  • RITUALS OF ECSTASY, a 6x60’ documentary series that will take Mark Dynamics, the most well known Australian DJ, into the realm of people who practice trance in different parts of the world.
  • OUR GENETIC FAME, a 13x30’ documentary series that questions people’s interest in their genetic linked to famous people in history.
  • TERMINAL POWER, a 13x60’ documentary series on the effects of mental and physical illnesses in the decision making process of prime ministers and presidents.
  • BLIND TREK, a 52’ documentary film about a group of blind people who want to become heroes and summit Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
  • THE HEART OF A SPY, a controversial feature film about the North Korean spy underworld and Japanese abductions.

In 2007, Carlos was selected as one of the jurors for the documentary section of the AFI (Australian Film Institute) awards and by the Byron Bay International Film Festival.
