CARLOS ALPERIN - Personal Profile
Carlos Alperin is the Managing Director of Galloping Films, a film and TV production and distribution company based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Galloping Films has been trading since 2001 and incorporated in 2003.

Carlos was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was educated in his homeland, as well as in Israel before moving to Australia in 1988. A passion in arts and filmmaking saw Carlos attaining in 1977 a BA degree in Fine Arts from Betzalel School in Jerusalem and in 1979 a Diploma in Film and TV from Beit Tzvi, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Carlos has traveled and worked widely in Asia and the Americas. In 1988 he settled in Australia with his wife and daughter and since then he has been living in Brisbane where he studied for a MA in Film and TV at Griffith University.

His broadcasting experience began in television where he worked as a researcher, writer, editor, director and producer of dozens of documentaries, feature films and TV series for international TV broadcasters and production companies.

GALLOPING FILMS
Production
Galloping Films has developed strong ties with the Pacific Film TV Commission, Australian Film Commission and Australia Film Finance Corporation. These film funding bodies granted the company more than $600,000 in investment, grants and loans. It created and produced episodes and trailers of the following animated series:

"Cosmo Kids” (26x30’). This science fiction series received the Monte Miller Award by the Australian Writer’s Guild.
“The Pup Pups” (65x10’). This series for young children was developed with Scottish TV and Baron Entertainment (Perth).
“Bilby Blastoff” (65x1’). A Series of funny interstitials.

Carlos wrote and produced the feature length documentary “Raul, the Terrible”, an intimate and dangerously up-close portrait of Raul Castells, a man driven to change the world and a frightening insight into the politics of poverty in 21st century Argentina. The film was directed by twice Academy Award nominee David Bradbury and was awarded a Special Mention at the Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels in Biarritz, Nominated for Best Documentary, Best Director and Best Editor by the Australian Film Institute and Nominated for Best Documentary by the Australian Teachers of Media. The film will be screened on SBS (Australia) in early 2007.

Raising Finance:
“Eating with Ancestors”, a 6x52’ documentary series exploring the exciting historical, anthropological and culinary perspective of international food. The series has secured a development deal from SBS and PFTC (Australia), as well as strong commitment from the international market.

“Secrets of Paradise”, a documentary series on the origins of the people of the Pacific. Using genetic evidences, archaeological diggings and legends the film will trace ancient immigration waves and cultural influences in the Pacific. 

In Development:
“The Heart of a Spy”, a controversial feature film about the North Korean spy underworld and Japanese abductions that has a strong commitment from Los Angeles based film director and producer Hyunjin Jo.

“Clump”, a 3D animated feature film; “Code of Honor” and “Black Friday,” both feature film thrillers.

Distribution:
Galloping Films is also involved in the distribution of feature films and TV programs from around the world. Galloping Films skillfully plans its marketing strategies to launch a successful film or TV program by closely monitoring industry trends and understanding its clients’ needs so it can maximize the exposure of films and TV programs’ release in all media.

Carlos has participated at 20 international film and TV markets including MIP-Asia (HK), MIP-TV, MIPCOM, Cannes Market (France), LA Screenings (US), Asia TV Forum (Singapore), Pussan Film Market (Korea) and Tokyo Film Market (Japan). While attending these markets Carlos was instrumental in the signing of contracts worth US$3m in production and distribution deals and opportunities.

Since establishing Galloping Films (formerly named El Zorro Distribution) in 2002, Carlos has licensed 37 TV series from Australia, Singapore, China and Thailand totaling 529 hours of variety, sitcom and drama, and 61 feature films from the United States, France, Japan and Hong Kong to American and South American cable and satellite broadcasters, and video/DVD distributors.

Galloping Films is now expanding its distribution activities by representing independent Australian feature films and TV programs in all media and all over the world.

Galloping Films’ team also includes Cassidy Fine (Executive Assistant), Peter Bolam (Solicitor) and Geoff Stephens (Accountant).
