Eating with the Ancestors

is a documentary series

which has a large scoop of archaeology

a sprinkling of anthropology

a teaspoon of history

and a dash of cooking

rolled together to present a totally new way

at looking at the food we eat from Asia.

Eating with the Ancestors will bring together a number of fascinating academic areas that will enlighten our knowledge of modern Asian cuisine: food studies, archaeology, anthropology, history, religion, cultural studies and the media. This blend of documentary series has never been explored on Television before.

Each episode will focus on one country in Asia, its history, people, landscape, culture and food. Eating with the Ancestors will use the latest trends in CGI and will include re-enactments and verite. This will create a compelling and dynamic way in which to explore and link the culturally rich history of Asia with its present.

Eating with the Ancestors will give to TV audiences an understanding of how these foods made an ancient civilisation come together over food, created a culture and, ultimately, were the primary source of survival. Without these dishes, the people of the present world would most certainly not be here today and we wouldn’t enjoy them.

Eating with the Ancestors will visit the following countries and regions:

Northern China
Eastern China
Thailand
Vietnam
Malaysia
Korea
Japan
The Philippines
